I'm so happy you decided to visit my site. Here you can find information about my class and other helpful links.
Here is some information about my class:
1. Skills Covered: Lowell has adapted the national Common Core curriculum and it will be fully utilized in my classroom. For a full description, read about the curriculum at http://www.lowell.k12.ma.us/.
2. Extra help: I offer Extra Help most days from 3-3:30pm. If a child wishes to come, s/he must bring a note from home at least THE DAY BEFORE so I can arrange childcare. I also offer some before school & lunch times depending on the need.
3. Homework: Homework will be given in ELA almost every night, including most weekends. Students sometimes have a chance to start homework during class, but most nights they will have work to do at home. All homework is EFFORT BASED.This means, if your child receives a low homework grade, s/he has either not handed it in, or not completed it. Even homework that does not have the correct answers will get a high grade if he/she TRIES. There is no excuse for low homework grades in ELA.
4. Discipline Procedures:At Wang Middle School, students are expected to have P.R.I.D.E: Participation, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, Empathy. Detention and infractions will be given for behavior issues, but they will also be given for lack of homework, signed documents that are not turned in, major projects not completed in time, and repeatedly coming to class unprepared.
5. Grading Policy: Each unit we will have a variety of assessments – tests, quizzes, essays, group work, in-class work, projects, etc. More than 60% of the grade is EFFORT BASED. If your child completes homework and in-class work and can keep all assignments throughout a unit, s/he will get a good grade in my class- even if s/he struggles with tests. Participation is also a major part of ELA. All students are expected to ACTIVELY participate within their groups and this will be a part of the students’ ELA grade.
6. Expectations: I have very high expectations for all of my students, but I also understand that sometimes life happens and students might need some extra wiggle room. I encourage all parents to communicate with me as much as possible so I know when a student might need some extra time on an assignment or might have a reason for any different classroom behavior. My grading policies and the rules of the classroom are consistent, but if there are extenuating circumstances, I will work to help your son/daughter stay on track in any way I can.
SPECIAL NOTE: Students will check google classroom most Fridays during ELA class and will be able to see grades or missing work from that week. I ALWAYS allow work to be re-done if a student isn’t happy with his or her grade. I also allow students to pass in late work (unless it happens too often). All work late or improved work is due by the Monday after it is assigned by 8:15am. No exceptions unless it is extenuating circumstances.
