Each year, our 8th graders take part in an amazing journalism unit. They don't just learn about journalism, they BECOME journalists. They learn how to pick topics the community cares about, how to conduct an interview, how to research, how to write an unbiased report, and finally, how to run a newspaper room to create a final product. It is just as enriching for me as it is for them and I am so proud every year. This past year we decided to take this an extra step and we published our final products and turned them into PDFs. Each class produced their own newspaper and the entire thing was run by the students themselves. I was only in charge of doing check ins and helping with some of the technology, but other than that, they had an editor-in-chief, a copy editor, sports department, lifestyles, etc. We had so much FUN and the final products were fantastic!
